Hello from NY!!!

Hey everyone!!!
How is work? I am loving me job! I worked my first night last night! I was so surprised how easy it was to stay up. NY Nursing is sooo different! We do all our phlebotomy, neb treatments, and mix all our own IV bags (meds and lytes)! I had to become phlebotomy certified before I could start working on the floor. Im loving my little "hemocers"!!!! Catch me up...whats new! Miss you guys!

A New Nurse

What is it like to be a new nurse?? That is going to be answered differently for all of us. For me the first few weeks have flown by!! The first time I realized that I am really a nurse now is when I went to the Pyxis to pull a narcotic and I didn't have to have anyone get it out for me!!!

There are a few things you should find out your first few days though.
1. Find out what happens if your preceptor calls out or is flexed down. (Both of these happened to me and the call out was a messy situation to find someone who could precept me for the day.)
2. Make sure you and your preceptor are on the same page. (I have a wonderful preceptor!!! Y'all know I am a hand full and I don't think anyone else could get along with me and tolerate me the way my preceptor does!!)
3. Find out if your manager is an active participant on the floor. (This will tell you whether or not they can empathize with the floor nurses and advocate for them.)
4. You remember that big "D" word? Yeah that one, "delegate." We have to do that now, even with only a few patients. (Since I just stopped working as an NA, it's different being the one to do the asking, rather than being asked.)

That's all I can think of for right now. I am sure I will think of more later. Oh and make sure you check out the News and Observer on Sunday. Some of Rex's baby's (a few are mine) will be on the front page, plus they interviewed my preceptor!!! It's all about the big baby boom we are having!!

Mrs. Worsham, RN

Finally!!!!! I am now part of the club! I took the test on Wed, had (I think) around 100 questions, waited 2 LONG days to see that little word..... pass ........!!!!!
AHHHHHHHH it is over!!!!
SOOO exciting! Em add me to the list!
Korrie Worsham, RN- Strong Memorial Hospital, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology

YEA!!!!!!!!!!

Mrs Worsham, RN

AHHHHHHH!!!!! It is over! Thank the Lord! Could they have made the NCLEX any scarier!!!!I felt like I was a criminal-what a comfortable environment for the biggest test of your career!
I am a RN!!!!!

I took the test on Wed, had (I think) around 100 questions- I stopped looking after 75 because I knew it would freak me out. I feel like I have sat in front of the pearson's website for 2 days waiting!!! It is over! I'm part of the club now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting tomorrow....

I am starting my new job tomorrow at Rex.

I was supposed to begin on Sunday in the ED and my boss in my old job actually called my new manager and asked her if she could "borrow" me for the day and my new boss said it was fine - I on the other hand did not think it was fine, but of course had no option other than to just suck it up and deal with it - at least she had to pay me as a nurse =).... Tomorrow I just have an orientation class for the computer and pyxis and then Thursday I have a class for the specific program they use in the ED. Saturday and Sunday will be my first "real" shifts on the unit.

Keep me in your thoughts this weekend - I am super nervous!

Emilee

PS - I know you probably all got sick of my showing off my adorable niece Alyssa all the time - well, I just can't help myself - I took this photo of her last week - isn't she getting big? My mold told her she was cute and she said "no, nahne, I am gorgeous!"... I think we have trouble brewing =) Oh and BIG news - she is going to be a BIG SISTER!!!!! I can't wait to be an auntie x2!!! Baby #2 is due in February!

donzo!

hey everyone, I took my exam on july 2nd in greenville (lived at my bro's apt). All i wanted to see was a blank screen after 75 questions and like i thought once i hit 75 it went blue :D and i was relieved. Just like everybody else I was doubting myself thinking what if I did really really bad. Before I started worrying too much about it I told myself I did my part and now it doesn't matter, I am just gonna relax and those two days I was literally lying on the couch, watching tv with my laptop on my lap :D haha yeaa, been waiting to do that from a long time ;)
I will be starting work from Aug, 6th at Durham Regional Hospital. I got into their GEMS critical care and I will be working in ED!

Congratulations to Eden, baby is very cute and Congratulations to Koral on your wedding! you guys look great in pics :)

Advice for the test takers....

Please help by adding a comment with a quick overview of how you prepared for the NCLEX. I think it might be of help to our friends who have to re-take, or who are still yet to take the test.

Thanks!

I will be taking them July 25th!!! I am just about settled into my new apt in NY with my new husband! Married life ROCKS!!!!! Em the pictures are so beautiful! Irony

According to Websters dictionary irony is incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result. Irony can be a real bitch!

Work Schedules...

Who has already started orientation? How is it going?

What hours is everyone working? When do you start if you haven't already... How are you feelings about starting?

Meet Simon David Ng!

I spent some time tonight with Eden and Baby Simon! Oh my goodness, is he beautiful or what? Eden looked great, although certainly tired and sore after her C-Section on Wednesday. I took some photos and with Eden's okay have them here for everyone to see! They are going home in the morning - she said so far Erin and Gabriel(her other kids) like to see him cry and that Gabriel keeps telling him to "sit" - Kids are too funny!
