Hello from NY!!!

Hey everyone!!!
How is work? I am loving me job! I worked my first night last night! I was so surprised how easy it was to stay up. NY Nursing is sooo different! We do all our phlebotomy, neb treatments, and mix all our own IV bags (meds and lytes)! I had to become phlebotomy certified before I could start working on the floor. Im loving my little "hemocers"!!!! Catch me up...whats new! Miss you guys!

A New Nurse

What is it like to be a new nurse?? That is going to be answered differently for all of us. For me the first few weeks have flown by!! The first time I realized that I am really a nurse now is when I went to the Pyxis to pull a narcotic and I didn't have to have anyone get it out for me!!!

There are a few things you should find out your first few days though.
1. Find out what happens if your preceptor calls out or is flexed down. (Both of these happened to me and the call out was a messy situation to find someone who could precept me for the day.)
2. Make sure you and your preceptor are on the same page. (I have a wonderful preceptor!!! Y'all know I am a hand full and I don't think anyone else could get along with me and tolerate me the way my preceptor does!!)
3. Find out if your manager is an active participant on the floor. (This will tell you whether or not they can empathize with the floor nurses and advocate for them.)
4. You remember that big "D" word? Yeah that one, "delegate." We have to do that now, even with only a few patients. (Since I just stopped working as an NA, it's different being the one to do the asking, rather than being asked.)

That's all I can think of for right now. I am sure I will think of more later. Oh and make sure you check out the News and Observer on Sunday. Some of Rex's baby's (a few are mine) will be on the front page, plus they interviewed my preceptor!!! It's all about the big baby boom we are having!!

Mrs. Worsham, RN

Finally!!!!! I am now part of the club! I took the test on Wed, had (I think) around 100 questions, waited 2 LONG days to see that little word..... pass ........!!!!!
AHHHHHHHH it is over!!!!
SOOO exciting! Em add me to the list!
Korrie Worsham, RN- Strong Memorial Hospital, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology

YEA!!!!!!!!!!

Mrs Worsham, RN

AHHHHHHH!!!!! It is over! Thank the Lord! Could they have made the NCLEX any scarier!!!!I felt like I was a criminal-what a comfortable environment for the biggest test of your career!
I am a RN!!!!!

I took the test on Wed, had (I think) around 100 questions- I stopped looking after 75 because I knew it would freak me out. I feel like I have sat in front of the pearson's website for 2 days waiting!!! It is over! I'm part of the club now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Starting tomorrow....

I am starting my new job tomorrow at Rex.

I was supposed to begin on Sunday in the ED and my boss in my old job actually called my new manager and asked her if she could "borrow" me for the day and my new boss said it was fine - I on the other hand did not think it was fine, but of course had no option other than to just suck it up and deal with it - at least she had to pay me as a nurse =).... Tomorrow I just have an orientation class for the computer and pyxis and then Thursday I have a class for the specific program they use in the ED. Saturday and Sunday will be my first "real" shifts on the unit.

Keep me in your thoughts this weekend - I am super nervous!

Emilee

PS - I know you probably all got sick of my showing off my adorable niece Alyssa all the time - well, I just can't help myself - I took this photo of her last week - isn't she getting big? My mold told her she was cute and she said "no, nahne, I am gorgeous!"... I think we have trouble brewing =) Oh and BIG news - she is going to be a BIG SISTER!!!!! I can't wait to be an auntie x2!!! Baby #2 is due in February!

donzo!

hey everyone, I took my exam on july 2nd in greenville (lived at my bro's apt). All i wanted to see was a blank screen after 75 questions and like i thought once i hit 75 it went blue :D and i was relieved. Just like everybody else I was doubting myself thinking what if I did really really bad. Before I started worrying too much about it I told myself I did my part and now it doesn't matter, I am just gonna relax and those two days I was literally lying on the couch, watching tv with my laptop on my lap :D haha yeaa, been waiting to do that from a long time ;)
I will be starting work from Aug, 6th at Durham Regional Hospital. I got into their GEMS critical care and I will be working in ED!

Congratulations to Eden, baby is very cute and Congratulations to Koral on your wedding! you guys look great in pics :)

Advice for the test takers....

Please help by adding a comment with a quick overview of how you prepared for the NCLEX. I think it might be of help to our friends who have to re-take, or who are still yet to take the test.

Thanks!

Irony

According to Websters dictionary irony is incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result. Irony can be a real bitch!

Work Schedules...

Who has already started orientation? How is it going?

What hours is everyone working? When do you start if you haven't already... How are you feelings about starting?

Meet Simon David Ng!

I spent some time tonight with Eden and Baby Simon! Oh my goodness, is he beautiful or what? Eden looked great, although certainly tired and sore after her C-Section on Wednesday. I took some photos and with Eden's okay have them here for everyone to see! They are going home in the morning - she said so far Erin and Gabriel(her other kids) like to see him cry and that Gabriel keeps telling him to "sit" - Kids are too funny!

Congrats to the Ng Family on your beautiful new son! He is absolutey perfect!

wazup!

With Susan's help, I just figured out how to use this website but I passed that crappy test a week ago! I had around 175 questions. I was there for 3.5 hrs. I had pretty much every question you could imagine. Am I that much of a dumb-ass or did I just get extra questions?! Just like everyone else, I didn't think that I passed. Who cares b/c I passed!!! Keep it coming b/c we want 97%! Congrats to everyone who has passed and good luck to the rest of you fools!!

Love ya, Kristin

P.S. Eden had a 8lb 8oz baby boy on 6/27/07. Mommy and baby are doing fine and going home on Saturday!

P.S.S. I am going to be in L&D at Rex!!! Also, Beck is at 6C Surgical at Wake Med and Natalie is at Rehab at Wake Med.

I PASSED!!!!!!!

After two days of stressing and making peace with the fact that I wouldn't pass.... I found out this morning that I DID PASS! Yay! Thank God! I just knew I failed that darn test. So, I had 75 questions; 15 were check all that apply. I didn't know hardly any of that stuff, but apparent;y knew enough because now I am Susan Berry, RN!!!! Congrats to all, and good luck to the rest. I'll be in Day Surgery at WakeMed as of 7/23.

Poll - What are you plans for your books/notes?

I had always thought I wanted to keep all my books and notes and stuff, but now all I can think of is that I don't want them (well most of them). I think I will keep my Med-Surge books, my clinical skills and my patho book - but as far as the others (gero, ob, peds, fundamentals, psych...) I don't think I need them anymore. I will probably hang on to all my notes though b/c they don't take up much room and certainly don't weigh as much!

What are your plans for your books? Any thoughts on the best way to get rid of the books and make a little $$ on them?

Post a reply and let me know your thoughts!

Finally some peace of mind!

I cannot believe this day is finally here!! I just want to throw all my books away, all the study questions, everything!! I passed NCLEX! I took it Tuesday the 26 at nine in the morning. I got 75 questions and totally thought I missed just about every single one. Of course, I had Ann on my side telling me it was fine and she knew I passed. But, I just had to wait and see. So now after three nights without sleep, I can finally get some rest. Congrats to everyone!!!! Yeah!!! We did it!!! And we thougth graduation was a big deal?!?!?

Natalie Johnson, RN

Hello everyone,
I am so happy that it is OVER!!! I took the test on June 13th, and it was the HARDEST test I have ever taken, but I PASSED!!! I was nervous for two days after the test, keeping my laptop close by so I could check at any moment. I paid the $7.95 for the quick results and just cried and thanked God after I found out I was now an RN. My husband and children are so happy that I don't have to take those NCLEX books everywhere I go and now I can just be a mother and wife. I start WakeMed next week for orientation for my position in Rehab, and I am sooo excited. Good Luck to everyone!!

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Ughhhh! Freakin Out!

Oh my gosh!!! No, I don't have results. Sorry. I just took the horrible NCLEX today, 6/27. I had 75 questions, too. And of course have no idea how I did. I had 15 check all that apply! So, can we say "freakin out!"? I'll let you guys know when I know. Please say a prayer for me and keep your fingers crossed. I haven't cried yet; still in shock. Congratulations to all of you who have passed so far!

Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Add me to the list, too!

I took the NCLEX on Saturday, June 23. I also had 75 questions... 6 were check all that apply! I wasn't even paying attention to the question number and couldn't believe the exam cut off when it did. I said I wouldn't do it, but I paid the $8 to find out early if I passed. I made AJ, my husband, look while I was at work on Monday. I couldn't take everyone asking me any more and needed to know. Thankfully, it was good news. I would hate to start crying at working... kind of makes you look incompetent before you even start. Congrats to everyone!!

I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone,
I took the test on this past Sat, 6/23/07. I, also, had 75 questions and when the computer went blank, I almost screamed. Some of those questions...mmm...mmm....mmm. I simply told everyone that I talked to that day that I either did very, very good or very, very bad. I am sure that you all know that feeling. I could not even think of one question that I had gotten correct. I cried, kicked, and screamed for two days and then I, too, broke down and payed the 7.95 to get my results. What a wonderful surprise. For those who have not taken the test yet, just know, that you are doing better than you believe. Well, I wish you all the best in your future careers and congratulations to all the newlyweds and new moms.

A Few More Photos from Korrie's Wedding!

A few people have asked to see a few more photos from Korrie's Wedding. I had mentioned all of her hard work with the little details, so I thought I would add a few photos of those things as well. As I said in the initial post about the wedding. She was the epitome of a glowing bride. I hope she is enjoying her honeymoon!

Enjoy!

Hi! I'm Cristie, I'll be taking care of you and your baby today!!!

Hey y'all I passed my boards too!!! I actually took them on the 13th!! I was a wreck the day before!! Then I go there and went through all the motions!! Sat down and started that awful test. I got to the 75th question and hit next and the computer screen went blank!!! I wanted more questions!! I thought I had failed. Y'all know I'm not the greatest student. Heck after having to retake the final I was sure I failed it with only 75 questions! I got in the car and cried so hard I couldn't even drive myself home. Finally I got myself together. Fortunately the wonderful Emilee was able to calm me down and reassure me that I would not have questions so hard unless I were doing well. I felt like I hadn't even been to nursing school after that test! And wouldn't you know Em was right!! I had to have Greyson check for me b/c I was no where near my computer. I felt bad b/c I thought she was going to have to give me bad news!! But she said "Cristie, (pause) you passed!" I never want to go through those two days of waiting again!!! Next Monday, July 2 I will start in Mother/Baby at Rex!! Thanks everybody for your support. And for those of you who thought I couldn't do it: HAHA, I showed you!!

Korrie's Wedding!

It was beautiful - Korrie looked amazing and so happy! We had a great time - Here is a quick preview of happy her and Philip were! They are off for their honeymoon in the morning and then the move to NY the day after they get back -

Happy Wedding Day to Korrie Singler!

Today is the day she becomes Mrs. Philip Worsham!! I am looking forward to seeing how all of her hard work will come together tonight! It looks like the weather is going to be great today too!

I'll try to post a picture tonight or tomorrow!

An Update from Noel R!

I got this info from Noel and with his permission am sharing it with everyone...

"I took the NCLEX-RN exam on 6/20/07 at 0900. I had 75Q's, as well. When I got out of the testing room, I was dazed and perplexed. Am I that good or bad? I was certain of my answers on 20/25 Q's but other than that, all my answers were purely result of deduction/elimination. Afterwhich, I went to Crabtree Mall at 1030 and wandered aimlessly. After a while, I went home and ride my bicycle. I have been checking the pearson web site since AM 6/21/07. Finally, when I checked at 0800 today, it says my results is available. I typed my credit card number, closed my eyes and say a little prayer, and then hit ENTER. When, I saw PASS, I had a big sigh. Kiss my wife and daughters. My best morning in the last 5 years. What a wonderful day! "

Finally done

Hi guys. I took the NCLEX on Monday, 75q's & was a wreck that I didn't make it. I finally paid the $8 thru Pearson to get my results on Wednesday; NCBON phone # didn't have it listed until today. I thought there was some problem with my results, that I didn't really pass after all. That would have been really messed up if I had to call everyone back to say, "Just kidding! I'm NOT a nurse after all!"

So I'm taking a few weeks off, trying to enjoy my family & get my neglected for 5y house (d/t school) into some semblance of order. Making many trips to the Goodwill with crap I don't need.

Hope everyone is well. Good luck if you haven't taken it yet. The best advice I can give is do as many practice ?s as possible. It'll remind you about those tests/symptoms/meds/diseases you forgot about. The questions on the NCLEX are not obvious, you really have to think them thru to figure out the right answer. I wish NCBON had told us which ones we'd gotten wrong. I'm still going over them in my head, and it's not something you can look in your M/S books to figure out.

Happy weekend ;)!

Hi, I'm Emilee & I'll be your nurse today!!!!

YIPEEE!!!!! I just got my verification that I passed my test on 06/20/07!!! I got 75 questions and have been a nervous wreck - finally I can relax!!

I never got the link on my pearson account to check my results, but I called the NCBON and they had my official results already on the phone line!

I hope everyone keeps posting their good news!

Good Luck to everyone still waiting to take the exam... I'll be thinking of you!

Emilee =)

Congrats to Noel Rivera, RN!

I got an email today from Noel asking me to post his good news! Congratulations on your achievement!

NCLEX Success

Hi All,
I also took the NCLEX a few weeks ago and passed. My license came last week, and I never would have thought that a piece of paper could make me so happy. I'd love to hear from others who have taken the NCLEX. Hopefully our class will be the one that brings the Wake Tech stats back up. Congrats to everyone who has already passed. If you've yet to take yours, and there is anything you want to know (other than specific questions), let me know.
I start at Duke Raleigh on July 23. Is anyone else going to be working there?

NCLEX

I took my NCLEX exam 2 weeks ago - I thought it was really hard but I passed :) I started my new job at Wake Med Cary this past Monday. I think it really hit me when i got my name badge with "RN" next to it.... holly crap - I'm really an RN.... Holly Crap....

Anyway I would love to know how the rest of you are doing. I miss seeing everyone at school.

Erika
